RC week 4 6” test

Tomorrow morning

Remember your DB's as Mike will here during class to measure your DB's for the DB holders he is making.

Trina, I have my old, small DB that we fitted Zoey with and will use it to measure for Zoey's DB holder.

Never ending training

Up at our family reunion camp out there were a bunch of steps. Wow what a great training opportunity with steps. Not perfect but I love the check ins to see when I’m stepping and when I’m stopping. I laughed when she had front paws on next step back paws on previous steps and looked up at me like “I really messed up on that one” crazy dog.

Riley/Buck RC week 3 social test

Riley/Buck RC week 3 defence test

Riley/Buck RC week 3 prey test

RC Lesson 3 exam, 3 drives, Kellie & Piper

Wow, these were much harder than expected.  My timing is still off and I think I'm still releasing her ear too soon.  The last video was crazy hard for this trainer because the kids kept talking to me and I didn't want to be rude and ignore them. Multi tasking is definitely not my strength!  I filmed extra defense retrieves so that we've hopefully achieved at least 10 acceptable ones between the three videos.

Reminder about EC's

Class,

You are training your dog that it has the power to 'turn-off' the pressure from EC by obeying.

When I put pressure on a dog's  'button', some dogs make a small sound, some dog's yell, some dog's make no sound. Regardless, when I command "Fetch", my set up is correct, I square up (Jessi's terminology), the dog's head is straight ahead, (watch Jessi with Nova's EXAM she just posted), and the set-up remains IN PLACE UNTIL the dog's mouth is on the dowel all the way.  So the EC occurs immediately on  command and there is not only 'pressure' on your dog's 'button', there is also pressure of you physically moving your dog's head forward and promptly. No lolly gagging.  It's takes some practice to get all of these mechanics, many incredibly tiny mechanics, almost done simultaneously, done smoothly.

Why practice? Because you can't ask your dog to perform well when you are fumbling around or when your 'pressure' is incorrect or marginal (which is called nagging your dog).

Practice with your Fido until your mechanics are fluid, streamlined and smooth. The point of an EC done well is so the dog believes you CAN and ABSOLUTELY WILL surely do an EC when the dog fails to obey. THAT is the mindset for doing the EC'S well. Make them count, so the dog believes you, then you don't have to do them.

Roxanne

Remember, since 'Distance erodes Control' is it far, Far, FAR to do the EC well NOW, while we are at 1", than when we go to 6" (Lesson 4).

Lesson 3 1” RC Nova exam

This is what I came up with.

Trina & Z Wk 3 Exam

1” Retrieves against Social. The first video of retrieves against social done at HHPR Thursday would not have been a pass. She had all 3 EC and put up a little bit of a fight so I redid it at Walmart. She did much better.

Defense Retrieves were difficult. Several EC at the beginning. I went back to week 2 to give her success then proceeded with week 3. Not sure if this is going to be a pass. Knowing someone is outside but not being able to see who it is very hard for her. She was extremely stressed and shutting down on me by the end so I didn’t want to push her anymore. Sorry the camera angle wasn’t better. My arm is in front of her head so it is hard to see but hopefully it will work.

After a good break we won’t and worked against prey drive. These retrieves were a little easier.  Not perfect but she is going for the dowel much better than defense.

Niko & Kat RC Week 3 Exams

I had a 12 year old camera man this afternoon. I reviewed the rules that he could not talk while we were filming on the way to Home Depot… he made it about halfway through the first recording before he forgot. 😆

Prey: Dorito Chips (Spicy Triangle-shaped Bunnies?)

Today Jürgen learned about auto-focus. Wasn’t that nice? 😂

Post from Karen. And her Week 5 EXAM # 1, Vickster's Test

Left foot no other left foot,  right foot no other right? This is what helps me.

Week 2 Exam- Mary and Molly

We took medicated Molly to Home Depot today to get her out of the house and find some distractions for the Week 2 Exam. We found plenty…a dog, people going by, Mike had a bag of chips and one of her favorite people works there and he walked by! But no chicken 🤪 Mo still did okay. She had a hard time relaxing , tho.
