8-18-2024 Lesson 8 Review and where 'the rubber hits the road' or AKA 'Point of Contention'
Good class this morning. So, for Lesson 8, those of you who are ready, there are only a few new mechanics. The first new mechanic, for those who have passed their Lesson 7 HOLD Part II EXAM (which is everyone in the class), the HOLD Part III involves the following sequencing:
- "Stand", "HOLD", 3 circles, then one step forward and "Give"
- Once that is accomplished, reset the dog, do another "Stand", "HOLD", stand tall and straight in correct Heel position, take 1 step forward (no verbal), while dog is in Stand and moving, right foot forward as you reach towards dogs' mouth and command "Give".
- Once the dog can do 1 step, repeat with 3-6 steps always following the same sequencing. Zoey CAN do this on an elevated surface.
- Repeat more steps. Once the dog can confidently "HOLD" while heeling (silently) start increasing the distractions including going UP/DOWN elevated surfaces.
The above is taught in Lesson 8: Speed & precision on retrieves, "HOLD" Part III
And just as a reminder, please reread these important articles and indicate you have done so when done.

8-16-24 Lesson 8 the "HOLD" Part 111
The Lesson 8 Part III is uploaded. Everyone has passed their Lesson 7, the "HOLD" Part II so you are good to go forward with this next HOLD training.
There are those of you who still need to post your Lesson 7 EXAM, 6 consecutive retrieves 'heading to the ground' precise retrieves for this week. That Lesson 7 EXAM is due no later than Saturday noon.
And of course, your 'JUMPS' EXAM and/or Cavallities EXAM needs to be posted also.

Trina and Zoey 30 second hold
Here is the hold video for today. Somewhere in my communication with the videographer went wrong. I told him to let me know when 30 seconds was up. At that point I wanted to see how close to a minute she would hold it. Well in what felt like forever I said “ Has that been a minute yet? It’s been a minute and a half. Long story short, we went over the requested 30 seconds. Sorry about that,
but she actually seems pretty content with low to medium distraction to hold it. I was worried when he started moving around us to record that she would open mouth to drop, but nothing. Yay!
