Trina & Z Wk 3 Exam

1” Retrieves against Social. The first video of retrieves against social done at HHPR Thursday would not have been a pass. She had all 3 EC and put up a little bit of a fight so I redid it at Walmart. She did much better.

Defense Retrieves were difficult. Several EC at the beginning. I went back to week 2 to give her success then proceeded with week 3. Not sure if this is going to be a pass. Knowing someone is outside but not being able to see who it is very hard for her. She was extremely stressed and shutting down on me by the end so I didn’t want to push her anymore. Sorry the camera angle wasn’t better. My arm is in front of her head so it is hard to see but hopefully it will work.

After a good break we won’t and worked against prey drive. These retrieves were a little easier.  Not perfect but she is going for the dowel much better than defense.

  1. Z’s week 3 RC exam against three drives. A little unsure if this will be a pass but it shows exactly where she is at. She is still putting up a little fight on some of her retrieves but each time we work she does a tad bit better and going for the dowel a little quicker.

    1. Trina! Thank you for sharing this. I missed the ‘NO EC’ rule reading through the instructions the first time! After reading your comments I went back and reread the instructions and know I need to resubmit. Thanks again!!

  2. Honestly Kat it was because of your test and Roxanne asking how many EC you had that I figured that out. I guess I need to read better also cause I missed it too in the reading.

  3. Trina,

Great handling! Pass on retrieves against Prey and Social, please redo your Defense retrieve EXAM. So to help Zoey learn to ignore knocking on door, work her first on heeling and Stays as the door knocking is happening. This deliberate bsckwash training to earlier and well known comma WILL help her to desensitize to the knocking. Same principle as 'Flooding', just you are using earlier and very well trained commands to help her gain self-control. Does this make sense?

  4. Yes that makes sense. I’m hoping your suggestion will work because this door thing is driving me crazy and everything I have tried is not working. In fact I think it is making it worse. So frustrated 😣. Question? At what point do we do an EC. Is it right after we say fetch, or do we give them 1 second to comply before doing the EC. And, I did find her button because she yelped and then started jumping to get away. It made me feel bad, but then I remembered what you said, they know what they have to do to avoid it. And I think if I do it a couple times she will figure it out that I say what I mean and I mean what I say.

  5. I need to do that with Molly when she’s up and running again! She loses her mind when someone comes to our door.

  7. Thanks for that clarification. I know what I’m doing wrong now. I also have thought about it and I’ve been slowly applying pressure. But I can see that it needs to be done hard immediately in order for her to realize it’s not a wait until it hurts to mind but I better mind or I know it will hurt.

    1. Trina, I think we were in the same place. I like how you phrased the bit at the end- I’m going to try to think that way, too. ☺️

  8. Yes, your line of thinking is correct

  9. And I do not want to cause unnecessary EC'S, nor.do I want to overcorrect any dog. So when I do an EC or a correction, I want my mechanics to be crisp, clean and crystal clear on what I expect that dog to do in that moment. I don't want to nag the dog, nor do I want the dog to question when it needs to obey. Crisp, clean, clear mechanics set the dog up to learn rapidly so then we can go onto other things And through the years , I have become laser fast in my mechnics.

    That's my thinking.
