Do notice the 'heaving breather' is Sugar. He had water around his heart, so breathing was a struggle. But, my God's grace, Sugar helped to raise Ruth (that's what I wanted him to do) and he lived, well, an extra 17 months after he was diagnosed with this health issue. That's unheard of, but God gave Sugar extra time here with us. And Sugar trained Redd how to be Pack Leader.
Do note that Ruth here is barely 8 months old, just having finished the FC, and still quite a youngster. Interesting seeing her here, from almost 1 1/2 years ago, to today. Quite the difference in understanding, comprehension, and training, isn't it?
Puppies grow up lightning fast, may as well invest those first 2 years in solid obedience training as they grow up no matter what. And we won't tell our young puppies, learning ALL of this obedience training, that many people believe you don't train a puppy until it is 2 years old. WHAT??? I want a well-behaved, well-trained, very socialized, obedient dog by the time it is 2 years old, not a wild hellion.
So, with each of my puppies, I invest, heavily, into the time required for success in the Mannerly Puppy Course, FOUNDATION Course, Retrieve Course, and Tech Savvy Course. I usually do all 4 courses before a puppy is one year old. You can see the results in my dogs, they are NOT perfect (nor am I), but overall, their level of obedience is remarkable in any/all environments.
So, Trina/Zoey, Jessi/Nova, Buck/Riley and Kat/Niko - all 4 of you are on the SAME TRAINING TRACK I do with my own personal dogs. Please remember, they are all very much 'young teenager's' and do foolish things, sometimes often-:) But with every day, every lesson, every experience, every new layer of training, they are acquiring mindsets that 'work = reward of praise/relationship/bonding'. Have patience, they are learning as fast as you are learning. I, Jessi too, are here every step of the way to help you become the handler your dog believes/trusts as your dog learns to obey. Once trained, that is you AND your dog, woohoo, then all the fun stuff is available.
So proud of EACH of you today in class. Stellar handling, stellar work, steady, consistent progress. And I so enjoy the Retrieve Class Group as you are able to laugh, make jokes, make mistakes and still continue training. To me, that's what makes the Retrieve Class dynamic so powerful as a group. And my experience is that the group Retrieve Class dynamic exponentially increases a dog's ability to learn these concepts because they watch the other dogs AND they earn group APPLAUSE.
I still gave to relocate Lesson 8 EXAMs and comments to Student EXAMs section. However, Kat, I did upload you and Kellie's Lesson 9 videos, in SloMo, from this morning and provided feedback. This is a critical week. I want to get each of you through using the HOLD correction ASAP with the "Fetch". The faster the dog can grasp the "HOLD" is now married to the "Fetch", the easier next week will be.
